New Rules for Overdrafts on Debit Cards and ATM
Effective July 1, 2010 for new members, and August 15, 2010 for current members, we will
not authorize and pay overdrafts for ATM and debit card transactions unless you ask us to. An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction.
If you want us to cover these transactions, choose to Opt-In (Yes) to
Overdraft Privilege on the
form we provide you. This will ensure that you have protection on every transaction, including checks, automatic payments, and debit card purchases. This will save you the embarrassment and possible expense of having your debit card denied.
We will charge you the current NSF fee of $20 for each item we pay. There is no limit on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account.
Can’t decide if you want Overdraft Privilege?
Here are some situations you might experience that could help you decide:
- You’ve got a cart full of groceries for your family and you don’t have your checkbook on you. Would you want your debit card to work, even if you are just a little short?
- You’re at the 24-hour pharmacy at 3 am because your child is sick. You know you don’t have the money for the prescription in your account, but you get paid in two days. Would you want your debit card to be approved?
- It’s the middle of the night and you’re out of gas. The gas station is not open, but the pay at the pump card reader is working. Would you want your debit card to be approved?
- That special woman you’ve had your eye on finally says “yes” and you’re on your first date. You don’t get paid until tomorrow, and when the bill comes it’s a bit higher than you planned on. Do you ask her to pay her share? Or are you sure your debit card will be approved because you have Overdraft Privilege?
(Terms and conditions apply.)
Late Fees Adopted
Effective May 1st, 2010, a $25 late fee will be charged to loans that are over 30 days past due. The $25 late charge will be applied every 30 days until the loan is brought up to date.
